About this Event
Get settled in your holiday sleigh as the NIH Community Orchestra and Chorus return to Bethesda for a joyous classical ride, traveling from Mozart’s era into the 21st century! Our 90-minute program opens with the early-1900s classic, March of the Toys, then we’ll introduce you to D.C. native, Pulitzer-prize winning George Walker’s poignant Lyric for Strings. Next, the NIH Community Orchestra is honored to showcase professional guest soloist, Greta Richard, in Mozart’s Horn Concerto No. 3.
After Intermission and a quick 19th century stop via a selection from Tchaikovsky’s lyric opera, Eugene Onegin; we’ll welcome the NIH Community Chorus on stage for Randall Thompson’s 1940 classic, Alleluia. Finally, both Chorus and Orchestra will present beloved holiday carols in Rejoice, by contemporary composer Gwyneth Walker.
Free admission with RSVP, donations gratefully accepted for NIH Charities and to support orchestra operations. Our expanded seating at Walt Whitman High School makes this concert a perfect event to share the joy of holiday music! See you in Bethesda!
