Introduction:

In the contemporary information age, the vast majority of the world’s knowledge and transactional records are meticulously stored within complex database systems. To access, interrogate, and harness the full potential of this unprecedented volume of data, mastery of SQL (Structured Query Language) is indispensable. SQL is not simply a tool; it is the universally recognised lingua franca of databases, a language of extraordinary precision and power that enables scholars and practitioners alike to communicate effectively with data at scale. For the emerging data scientist, an understanding of databases and fluency in SQL are not peripheral skills but rather foundational pillars without which genuine expertise in the discipline cannot be attained.

The principal aim of this course is to introduce learners to the fundamental concepts of relational database theory, thereby equipping them with the intellectual framework and technical competence required to engage meaningfully with SQL and its integration alongside the R programming language. Furthermore, the course is designed to facilitate a practical initiation into the execution of SQL commands within a contemporary data science environment, ensuring that participants develop both conceptual sophistication and operational confidence as they embark on their trajectory toward advanced data analysis and scientific inquiry.
