Free! - From Flour to Sour: Discovering the world of German Sourdough

Schedule

Mon May 06 2024 at 05:30 pm to 06:30 pm

Location

Abundance Food Co-op | Rochester, NY

In this free community workshop we will share our passion for hearty breads.

We'll talk about what sourdough is and its rich cross-cultural history, share how using ancient grains, whole grains, and seeds in baking can enhance your bread and make for a more nutritionally rich food, and talk about the bread culture in Germany and what things you might find at a German bakery.

Finally, we'll equip you with the tools and knowledge to start your bread-baking journey. And, of course we will have plenty of samples!

About Us:

Das Brot is an artisan German sourdough bakery by Berlin native Emma Mantel and her Upstate New Yorker husband Leif Johansen who have relocated to the South Wedge in Rochester, New York. Though a biomedical engineer and a university admissions officer by day, Emma and Leif use ancient grains to craft fresh bread by hand through a 36-hour small batch process every weekend. They believe that bread should be flavorful, hearty, and nourishing. Das Brot is a homage to these values.
