Explore the materiality of photography with celebrated photo printing practitioner Sandy Barnard. With over three decades of experience, and her work showcased in galleries across the globe, Sandy’s photo printing practice represents the silent partner in the artists’ success. Sandy will be joined by the National Gallery of Australia's Senior Paper Conservator, Fiona Kemp, for a conversation that uncovers how photographic materials, processes and preservation help to shape the stories that images can convey. Together they’ll delve into the technical and tactile dimensions of photography, from analogue printing methods to the evolving material challenges presented by contemporary photographers.
Hosted by the Gallery’s Curator of Photography, Annie O’Hehir, this conversation will invite audiences to consider the photograph beyond the image, as a physical object shaped by touch, technique and time.
