In this talk, Carol will discuss how this collaborative series configured fashion within the landscape of contemporary art and provide an overview of Miyake’s contribution to innovation in fabric technology and design.
Issey Miyake (b.1938 Hiroshima, Japan) is an internationally acclaimed Japanese fashion designer. Miyake studied graphic design at Tama Art University in Tokyo, graduating in 1969, and went on to study tailoring and dressmaking at the Ecole de la Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne in Paris. He undertook apprenticeships with designers Guy Laroche, Hubert de Givenchy and Geoffrey Been before establishing his own independent studio in Tokyo, Miyake Design Studio, in 1970.
