Join the Japanese American Museum of Oregon for this Free First Sunday, generously sponsored in honor of Shiuko Sakai.Admission is free all day, 11am-4pm, and includes access to JAMO’s current exhibition, Made with Love: 45 Years of Ikoi no Kai. In addition, we will be launching the final History Detective activity.
The History Detective program is for all ages but intended for those 5-12. It encourages engagement with the objects, photographs, and stories in the museum through the lens of a historian. Participants will learn important vocabulary, study artifacts, examine photos, maps, and documents, read and listen to stories, and ask and answer questions along the way.
On October 6, JAMO will launch the 3rd and final History Detective Challenge: Story Keeper! This challenge asks participants to practice the skills of gathering information from quotes and oral histories. The challenge booklet will support participants in understanding events through another person’s perspective as they move through the museum.
Participants who have completed all three booklets can take home their History Detective patch!
Become a History Detective by picking up your booklet at the Japanese American Museum of Oregon. Complete the three activities before the end of the year to get your official badge. All three challenges will be available to complete starting October 6, so come by this Free First Sunday or anytime before the end of the year to pick up your book and complete the activities.
