OUT OF THE BOX Book Party with Puppet Show & Storytelling by Bill Trimpi

With his puppets & drum, Bill Trimpi is the recreation teacher known for the past 50 years to local students as “Mr. Bill” -- and to the hundreds of young people ages 4-14 who go through the summer Santa Cruz Soccer Camp for the past 35 years where he tells stories, he’s known as “Lion King.”

Please join us in the Lobby at The 418 for a delightful Saturday afternoon of Puppetry and Storytelling, celebrating the release of Bill’s new book Out of the Box, a Santa Cruz-themed activity guide with non-competitive games like Chunky Cheese, Cups to Castles, Graveyard Game, & Down/Up Dodgeball. It’s also a legacy memoir including the story of the Santa Cruz Soccer Camp. Half of the book contains Trimpi’s original stories told to countless students such as ‘Surfer Cat,’ ‘Stumpy the Tree,’ & ‘Star Girl.’

As a fellow guest teacher (magic, storytelling, drama) longtime The 418 Project board member Stan Grindstaff saw Bill Trimpi in action 10 years ago. As editor & co-writer, & contributor of photography, Stan produced this wonderful new children’s book of Bill’s.

There will be copies of “Out of the Box” available for sale at the event and Bill Trimpi will be happy to sign them!

There is no charge for this free event but we encourage guests to reserve a space via Eventbrite in advance.

Doors open at 12:30 PM, show begins promptly at 1 PM at The 418 Project, 155 South River Street, downtown Santa Cruz at the Dragons Gate.
