About this Event
Cell signaling is an important concept for students to grasp because of its relevance in medicine, Eco/Evo biology, and even biomanufacturing, but its often been hard to teach hands on. In this hour long hands on workshop you will get to play with a kit Bio-Rad recently developed to address this learning gap. You will use 3 strains of Vibrio campbellii to probe how cell signaling takes place in this model organism using its bioluminescence as a reporter on its quorum sensing ability. The hands on activity requires a limited amount of aseptic technique in the form of co-plating bacterial strains. You can take home your bacteria at the end of the workshop.
For more information on the kit, you can go here and down load manuals:

or you can pull powerpoints, etc from my personal dropbox folder here:

Presentation will be run by Damon Tighe / (2) Damon Tighe | LinkedIn who was a former researcher on the Human Genome Project and has been working with Bio-Rad for over a decade to bring new hands on experiences into classrooms.
