About this Event

How to Survive a Shark Attack: Lessons from Hagfishes

Presented by Dr. Douglas Fudge, Chapman University

Come learn about the unusual lifestyle of hagfishes!

Hagfishes are a group of jawless fishes that are found in the deep ocean around the world. They burrow into the sediment to prey on invertebrates, scavenge on carcasses, and to hide from predators. They are able to avoid fish predators with a unique flaccid body design and an ability to produce alarming amounts of slime in a fraction of a second.

Dr. Douglas Fudge is a professor of biology at Chapman University where he runs the Comparative Biomaterials Lab and works mostly on the biology of hagfishes.
