About this Event

Two vibrant community choirs—Cappella Cantorum from the USA, directed by Dr Jeremy Milton and The Edinburgh Police Choir, directed by Stuart Murray Mitchell, come together in a powerful celebration of shared music-making and international friendship. United by passion, heritage, and the joy of singing, they bring voices across the Atlantic to one stage.

Their joint programme spans centuries and styles: from the soaring beauty of Palestrina, Schütz, and Mozart to the emotional depth of Bob Dylan, Whitacre and gospel-inspired works, alongside beloved contemporary classics and traditional Scottish songs with piano accompaniment.

This is more than a concert—it’s a meeting of communities, cultures, and voices, celebrating the unifying power of choral music.

Founded in 1970, Cappella Cantorum is a community choir based in Connecticut, dedicated to giving singers of all ages the opportunity to learn, perform, and share outstanding choral music with the wider community. The ensemble has built a rich tradition of international touring, with overseas performance tours now taking place every other summer. Cappella Cantorum has also been honoured with invitations to perform at Carnegie Hall on six occasions, reflecting its long-standing artistic excellence and community spirit.

Founded over 17 years ago, The Edinburgh Police Choir has evolved from a small group of serving officers into a vibrant ensemble of people from all walks of life. Today’s Choir proudly carries forward its roots in the Police Service while reaching far beyond, performing across Scotland and beyond with a shared passion for song.

Under the direction of Stuart Murray Mitchell the Choir’s repertoire spans everything from much‑loved Scottish songs and modern classics to lively mash‑ups and medleys that bring unexpected pairings together in a fresh and exciting way. Each piece has been chosen to weave a story—of hope, joy, and the rhythm of everyday life—just as our singers weave their individual voices into one uplifting sound.

The concert is free however we welcome donations to Forget Me Notes https://www.forgetmenotes.org.uk/

The Forget Me Notes Project is a charity that uses music to build community and combat isolation in a variety of settings.

In all of our work we aim to use music to build an inclusive community of warmth, openness and understanding, and to build environments where self expression is encouraged and welcomed.

We are a project that is built upon dementia-friendly values, and is open to all. We seek to provide environments that are purposeful, supportive, accepting, empathic, secure, celebratory, and are encouraging of self awareness and achievement.
