The Currituck Beach Lighthouse and Outer Banks Conservationists the invite you to celebrate the tower that in 1875 lit the East Coast’s last dark space! Still a public, active aid to navigation the beacon has guided thousands of Atlantic-faring ships to safety and is also an architectural delight, both inside and out! And this year, come celebrate what will be a full masonry repair of the exterior brick of the tower!
Please come climb as our guest anytime from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. on Tuesday, December 1, 2026. In enjoying this 19th century light station’s powerful sense of place on its 151st birthday, you’re helping to preserve local, state, and national history for another century and a half!
Learn from docents, brochures, exhibits, and artifacts about shipwrecks, the lives of lighthouse keepers, the history of the tower, and the original 1st order Fresnel lens at the site. The night marker is a 3 second-on, 17 second-off pattern; the day marker the tower’s unpainted red brick.
The light station is open to the public thanks to the nonprofit organization, Outer Banks Conservationists, which owns the tower through the National Historic Lighthouse Preservation Act of 2000. The organization works closely with the Department of the Interior, the National Park Service, the State of North Carolina, and the United States Coast Guard to maintain the site and its historic accuracy.
Ages 4 and older are welcome to climb the lighthouse. Children aged 0-3 years may enter secured in backpacks or slings only. Drones and their pilots must stay outside fence. Leashed pets are welcome on the Lighthouse grounds.
You may also commemorate the nation's favorite redbrick lighthouse with a season pass for unlimited climbs, available for purchase for individuals and families; the passes also includes unlimited visits to Island Farm in Manteo. Please visit the website for more information and to purchase online: https://obcinc.org/season-passes/
It's rare to celebrate a 151st birthday! Come enjoy one on us!
