FREE Art Class Series All Ages - with Julia Alcantara
About this Event
August 2026, Julia Alcántara will present a community‑centered series of visual art classes at La Cantera Arts Conservatory (LCAC), located in Oak Cliff within the Dallas city limits. This project will run from August 2026, culminating in a public exhibition of student work at LCAC in September 6th.
Classes are offered by donation, ensuring accessibility for residents of all income levels.
All materials will be provided, and no prior experience is required.
This series will include three distinct class types designed to appeal to a wide range of community members and to determine which offerings resonate most strongly with Dallas residents:
MONDAY: Aug 17th
- Still Life & Composition – exploring form, light, and classical drawing technique
THURSDAY: Aug 20th
- Life Drawing – focusing on anatomy, gesture, and expressive mark‑makingStudent’s Choice Sessions – allowing participants to vote on topics such as portraiture, abstraction, mixed media, or creative expression
SUNDAY: Aug 23rd
- Student’s Choice Sessions – allowing participants to vote on topics such as portraiture, abstraction, mixed media, or creative expression
SUNDAY SEPT 6th
- Art Show and Reception
There will be final public exhibition will showcase the strongest works created during the series, giving students the opportunity to share their progress with family, friends, and the broader Dallas community. This exhibition will be free and open to the public.
Ages:All ages welcome (kids, teens, adults). Families encouraged.
What participants need: All materials provided. We’ll use affordable supplies (canvas boards, paper, collage materials, markers, paint pens, etc.). Participants just need to show up ready to create.
Skill Level: Multi Level Advanced to Beginner / no experience needed.
ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR:
Julia Alcántara’s aptitude for the arts began in childhood and has shaped every chapter of her professional life. As an artist, educator, designer, and cultural leader, she has spent more than three decades helping people connect with creativity in meaningful, accessible ways. Her early work as an art consultant and designer allowed her to share her deep appreciation for visual art with clients across Dallas, guiding them through color, composition, architecture, and design with a trained eye and an intuitive understanding of how art transforms space.
Julia earned both a BFA in Studio Art and a BA in Art History from the University of New Mexico, where she also studied Flamenco music, dance and history — at the most respected flamenco school in the United States. This unique combination of studio practice, historical scholarship, and cultural immersion continues to inform her teaching styles. Her grounding in the history of art and architecture gives her a scientific, analytical approach to composition and design, while her flamenco training brings emotional depth, rhythm, and expressive movement into her work with students.
