“Behind Closed Doors”

First screening at Everyman Cinema, Blossom St, York. YO24 1AJ (a short walk from the main Rail Station ) on Thursday 12th September 2024 from 3pm to 5pm is free for professionals and those who have a duty to safeguard vulnerable women and girls experiencing abuse.

“Behind Closed Doors” aims to raise greater awareness of the dangers of Honour Based Abuse and Illegal Cultural Harms being experienced by black and minoritised women and girls hidden in our local communities . It is estimated that one girl or woman is killed every month in the name of “honour”. There are 17,000 officially reported incidents of HBA or forced marriage in the UK each year which we know is only the tip of the iceberg.

The film has been created using a collection of true accounts of abuse experienced by Halo Project Survivors who live in North Yorkshire, our thanks go to them in recognition of their courage and also to North Yorkshire Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner for their support.

Founded in 2014 The Halo Project is a national registered charity, an organisation with feminist values and is committed to being fair and inclusive, providing the best possible service to women and children who use our services, to professionals in agencies that we work closely with and to staff and volunteers working for and with us
