About this Event
Be an Active Bystander: Feel Confident to Make a Difference
We all want to feel able to help when we see something that doesn’t feel right, whether that is harassment, antisocial behaviour, discrimination or another situation where someone may need support. However, knowing what to do in the moment – and how to do it safely – isn’t always obvious.
Our interactive and practical Bystander workshop gives you the confidence and practical tools to respond appropriately. No previous experience is needed – just a willingness to learn and explore how you could make a difference.
Rather than simply telling people what they should do, the session explores realistic situations and different ways of intervening, from direct action to safer indirect approaches. Through discussion, activities and real-life scenarios, you’ll have the opportunity to think through what you might do and build confidence in responding.
You’ll:
- Understand the bystander effect and why people sometimes hesitate to act
- Explore how to recognise when behaviour has crossed a line, including less obvious incidents
- Learn a range of safe intervention techniques
- Discuss real-life scenarios and consider what you might do in different situations
- Build confidence in knowing when and how to step in safely
- Leave with practical resources you can use and share with others
Come along, get involved and leave feeling more confident about making a positive difference when it matters.
