THIS IS A FREE EVENT FOR US ALL LOCALLY TO CELEBRATE 75 YEARS OF THE FORMER SCHOOL'S PREMISES BEING USED AS A COMMUNITY VENUE.In 1950 the premises, having ceased being a school the previous year, became a hall for the community to use, first as Tansley Parish Hall, run by the church, and in 1984 as Tansley Village Hall, run independently by a committee of trustees. The organisation became a registered charity on 29th April 2014. The event celebrates the 75th anniversary (1950-2025) of the change from a school to a centre for our community. We are holding the event in the same week as TANSLEY FESTIVAL to augment it. TANSLEY FILM is also screening a film from 1950 (The Blue Lamp) to mark this special occasion.
The event will include
o free food and drinks in the afternoon, after school and in the evening,
o a seated cafe area in the bar space,
o three timelines showing 1) the history of the old school, 2) the Village Hall and the former Parish Hall and 3) our superbly completed renovation project,
o displays of interesting historical photos, documents and artefacts,
o popular songs from 1950 as background music,
o multiple photographic slideshows (on the screen and walls) including specially requested photos of Tansley from the public,
o information about all of the regular activities that take place weekly/monthly.
o we may have a demonstration of a waltz that was popular in 1950 - The Waltz Marie
We hope to have a new front door too for you to come through.
