FREDERICK DOUGLAS SPEAKS: What to the Slave is the Fourth of July?

Abolitionist and ex-slave Frederick Douglass gave a riveting and iconic speech, “What To The Slave Is The Fourth of July?” on July 5, 1852, at Corinthian Hall in Rochester, N.Y., at the invitation of the Rochester Ladies' Anti-Slavery Society. The speech by the powerful leader and outstanding orator, examined the conflicted origins of the country, its laws and its claims of democracy and liberty, on a day after the country is drunk on the celebration of independence. It's significance is a reverberation as United States celebrates its 250th anniversay of independence in this MAGA era.

The event will be a performance reading featuring Floyd Alvin Galloway, Richard Holmes, Danny “DL” White and Calvin Worthen. A question-and-answer session will follow the presentation. A portion of the proceeds will benefit KRDP 90.7 FM/Desert Soul Media.
