About this Event

Have you ever been to Frankfurt am Main? If not, you have missed out so far!
First mentioned as Franconofurd in 794, this Hessian metropolis has grown throughout the centuries to be a major transport hub and commercial centre. As you wander through its centre, you can discover layers of history – from dark times like the virtual extinction of Frankfurt Jews and the almost complete destruction of the old town by Allied bombardment during World War II to the wonderful legacy left by Germany’s national poet some 200 years prior. His traces can still be seen across the city in places like Goethe House, Goethe Monument and, further afield, Goethe Tower and Gerbermühle.
Today, Frankfurt is a vibrant place of finance and industry, culture and entertainment as well as tourism and one of Germany’s most multicultural cities. It is home to some 780,000 inhabitants from about 180 nations and despite considerable challenges more than 80% of the people say that they like living there.
In May’s Deutsche Runde, you will be taken on a tour through this exciting conurbation and hopefully learn a surprising fact or two along the way. Whether you are into history, culture, sports or cuisine, you will have the opportunity to plan your own day out in Frankfurt. Last but not least, you will be encouraged to get your head (and tongue!) around some bits of the local Hessian dialect.
Come along, join the conversation, and experience Germany’s Mainhattan!

Deutsche Runde is an informal gathering and exchange around a chosen topic of German language or culture. It is ideal for learners with some knowledge of German (B1 and higher). This event is held in German and is hosted by Katrin Frahm.
Participation is free of charge.

We look forward to seeing you!
