Tāmaki Makaurau’s own Frank Booker is one of the Southern Hemisphere’s most soulful and respected dancefloor selectors. From opening for Chaka Khan to playing exclusive afterparties for Quentin Tarantino and sharing booths with Moodymann, Gilles Peterson, DJ Harvey, DJ Spinna, Sadar Bahar, François K, Dam-Funk, CC:DISCO!, and Chaos in the CBD, Booker stands firmly amongst the originators and the new wave alike.
With roots in disco, boogie, jazz-funk, house, and broken beat, his sound is the product of deep musical knowledge and years spent cultivating a unique aesthetic alongside mentors like Soane, Manuel Bundy, Phil Asher, and Recloose. His sought-after edits and remixes have landed on labels such as Untracked, Wonderful Noise, Fine Art Recordings, KAT, and Kolour LTD, earning him global recognition.
Booker’s sets have lit up major festivals including Splore, Flamingo Pier, Rhythm & Vines, Electric Avenue, and Splendour in the Grass, as well as dancefloors across Europe, Asia, the UK, and the US. Behind the decks, he’s known for impeccable taste, emotional generosity, and the ability to move a crowd from first track to last. Beyond the booth, he’s an Ableton-certified trainer, educator, and mentor to emerging DJs and producers across Aotearoa.
In 2024, he co-founded the Music First club night and label with DJ Samuel Harmony, curating standout events with guests like Ron Trent, Musclescars, JNETT, Kenji Takimi, DJ Spinna, and Manuel Darquart — all anchored around one philosophy: community, real talent, and music first.
