Film restoration is not merely a technical process; it is an ethical undertaking that raises important questions about the role of the restorer and how to navigate the temptation of technological capability to erase the marks of time while striving to recover the filmmakers’ original vision.
In this live technical demonstration and conversation, film restoration expert Francesca Chelu Deiana will guide us through the digital restoration journey of a film, offering insights into the delicate decision-making process that unfolds frame by frame. From defying forms of deterioration to refining and reconstructing damaged images, the session will address both the technical challenges and the ethical dilemmas that define contemporary restoration practice.
The talk will be held in English!
