Why it Matters:

Fowler’s Syndrome / Chronic Idiopathic Urinary Retention (CIUR) remains one of the most poorly understood, inconsistently managed, and under-researched conditions in UK urology, neurology, pain medicine and pelvic health. Despite affecting up to an estimated 20,000 women in the UK alone, there is no national framework, no clinical guideline, and no standardised care pathway. This conference addresses that gap directly.

FSUK's patient-led phenotyping of 265 patients, published in Continence magazine* found:

  • Delays of 3.8 years on average before receiving a diagnosis
  • Fragmented pathways, with limited tertiary centre offering specialist expertise
  • High psychological and psychological burden (85% say the condition has a severe or devastating effect on their lives)
  • Severe quality-of-life impact, affecting continence, mobility, relationships, sexual health, pregnancy, and daily function
  • Limited mental-health support, with only 30% offered appropriate care
  • Frequent dismissal of symptoms, with 76% told their symptoms are psychological or ‘all in their head’
  • 91% experience frequent or chronic utis

Why Attend:

  • Shape Fowler's syndrome consensus guidance
  • Contribute to the first cross-disciplinary care pathway
  • Review the latest evidence and research
  • Understand lived experience
  • Collaborate with leading experts
  • Improve outcomes for an underserved population
  • Build practical tools for frontline care
