About this Event
Join a tour of Fire Kinship: Southern California Native Ecology and Art with Sarah K. Chenault, Lead Project Manager for PST exhibitions at the Fowler, and lecturer at Art Muse. This is the second of the Fowler’s Getty-sponsored exhibitions for PST: Art & Science Collide. In this critical moment, Fire Kinship offers valuable lessons in Indigenous fire stewardship and ecological resilience that hopes to inspire reflection, healing, and sustainable rebuilding.
The tour will focus on Indigenous Southern Californian perspectives on community well-being within the natural environment, fire stewardship practices, and the effects of climate change. A selection of traditional crafts such as baskets, ollas, and canoes, and commissioned contemporary artworks respond to and encourage consideration of the relationship between people, place, and fire.
Presented free of charge as part of the Art As Solace series.
