Join us --in person!-- for a poetry reading featuring poets Andrea Carter Brown and Beverly Lafontaine.
2pm Sunday, Sept. 26 at our alternative venue, the Claremont United Church of Christ.
Andrea Carter Brown's new collection of award-winning poetry, September 12, has just been published by the Word Works for the 20th anniversary of 9/11. She is previously the author of Domestic Karma (Finishing Line Press, 2018), The Disheveled Bed (CavanKerry Press, 2006), and Brook & Rainbow (winner of the 2001 Sow’s Ear Press Chapbook Prize). Since 2017, she has been Series Editor of the Washington Prize. An avid birder, she lives in Los Angeles, where she grows lemons, limes, oranges, and tangerines in her back yard. Beverly Lafontaine is a Los Angeles-born poet and playwright. She has enjoyed four productions of her plays in the Los Angeles area and has had her poetry published in various poetry journals and anthologies, including online journals Poets Reading the News and MORIA as well as print journals Spillway, Beyond the Lyrical Moment, Blue Satellite, and So Luminous the Wildflowers. Four of her poems appear in Waves, the anthology of women poets published by the AROHO Foundation. Her cross-genre projects include six of her poems incorporated into Walk a Mile in My Shoes, a sculptural art project erected by the City of Los Angeles in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King and Scenes from Sarajevo in which she collaborated with composer Tom Flaherty to produce a prize-winning chamber music piece for voice, cello and viola.
This reading will take place in person in the Louise Roberts Room at the Claremont United Church of Christ, 233 W. Harrison Ave. in Claremont, CA.
