About the Event
Joshua White returns to the series with his trio, bringing a dynamism rarely heard in the modern jazz scene. More than a pianist, he is a sonic explorer—blending tradition and innovation with a bold, contemporary voice.
Hailed as a “musical prodigy” by Herbie Hancock, White’s performances push the boundaries of improvisation. Audiences can expect a high-energy jazz experience that fuses the richness of classic repertoire with inventive, modern expression.
About Joshua White
Joshua White is an internationally acclaimed pianist and composer whose work bridges Western classical traditions and contemporary improvised music. Named a DownBeat Rising Star in consecutive years, he is widely recognized as one of the most compelling voices in modern jazz.
Known for his rhythmic intensity, harmonic depth, and fearless improvisation, White has earned praise from critics and peers alike. Herbie Hancock noted his “daring and courageous approach to improvisation on the cutting edge of innovation.”
A Southern California native, White began studying piano at age seven and developed a broad musical foundation spanning classical, gospel, and Black American musical traditions. A finalist in the Thelonious Monk International Piano Competition, he has performed internationally across North America, Europe, Africa, and Asia.
In addition to his performance career, White is a dedicated educator, serving on faculty at leading institutions and mentoring the next generation of jazz artists.
