Fourth Annual Gala & Thomas M. Cooley Judicial Lecture

Join the Georgetown Center for the Constitution at the National Archives on Friday, October 18, 2024 for our Fourth Annual Gala and Thomas M. Cooley Judicial Lecture.

We will commemorate the evening with the 2024 Thomas M. Cooley Judicial Lecture by the Honorable Judge Oldham of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit.

The Center will also award the seventh annual Thomas M. Cooley Book Prize of $50,000 to Professor Jack Balkin of Yale Law School, Memory and Authority: The Uses of History in Constitutional Interpretation (Yale University Press, 2024).

About the Center: The Georgetown Center for the Constitution, founded in 2012, offers a variety of programs on constitutional law and theory at Georgetown Law, placing special emphasis on how best to remain faithful to the Constitution's text.

About the Cooley Prize and Lecture: The Georgetown Center for the Constitution established the Thomas M. Cooley Book Prize and Judicial Lecture to recognize exceptional books written that advance our understanding of, and commitment to, our written Constitution. The Cooley Book Prize and Judicial Lecture honors the renowned legal scholar and jurist Thomas McIntyre Cooley. Cooley was a longstanding chief justice of the Michigan Supreme Court, and a professor at the University of Michigan Law School, where he also served as the dean. He authored several highly influential books, including A Treatise on the Constitutional Limitations Which Rest Upon the Legislative Power of the States of the American Union.
