Calliope School of Folk MusicFour-week bluegrass bass workshop
Taught by Trish Imbrogno
Tuesdays 2/2 through 2/24
6:30 - 7:45 p.m.
Winchester Thurston School in Shadyside
This class is for those who are new to or have minimal experience with the upright bass and want to learn the skills needed to provide the solid foundation needed for bluegrass ensembles. We will cover tuning, the importance of rhythm (and how to develop it), left and right-hand techniques, and patterns for basic bluegrass keys. No experience necessary – just a willingness to learn and an upright bass. Electric bass players are welcome to join this class, but technique elements will be focused on playing upright bass.
Registration is required for this class and space is limited. Learn more and sign up at https://calliopehouse.org/classes/bluegrass-bass-4-week-workshop-spring/

** About Calliope School of Folk Music **
Since its founding in 1990, the Calliope School of Folk Music has provided thousands of students with the opportunity to explore the rich folk heritage available to them in western Pennsylvania. The Calliope School is one of few schools in the region to offer courses in folk instruments and singing, keeping alive the endangered art of making and sharing music.
Learn in a friendly, non-competitive setting. Whether you’re starting up on a new instrument, looking to brush up on rusty skills, or seeking more advanced training, you’ll receive quality instruction from the best folk artists here in western Pennsylvania at a fraction of the cost of private lessons.
** About Trish Imbrogno **
Trish Imbrogno is a classical double bassist turned bluegrass picker. Her studies at Duquesne University’s Mary Pappert School of Music with Jeffrey Turner (former Principal Bass, Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra) provided a strong foundation of technique, rhythm, and musicianship, allowing a seamless transition from concert blacks to cowboy boots. Trish has also studied with Alan Bartram (Del McCoury Band, Travelin’ McCourys), Mike Barber (The Gibson Brothers), David McLaughlin (Johnson Mountain Boys) and Missy Raines. She has performed at Carnegie Hall (NYC), DelFest, Bristol Rhythm and Roots, and IBMA World of Bluegrass and has played opening sets for Bela Fleck’s My Bluegrass Heart, The Steep Canyon Rangers, Rumple Mountain Boys, and more. Trish is a member of the International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA)’s Leadership Bluegrass Class of 2018 and a Fishman artist. www.trishplaysbass.com
