The Four Star Bar Tour is back on the road once more, thanks to Notre Dame facing off against R-Kansas early in the day. We will start close to home at
4:30 - 5:30 (Lakeview) Kirkwood - This is a great neighborhood spot with two interior bars and a beer garden out back. Maybe Indiana will be playing a game while we are there and we can scoop up some new attendees before we ride off to:
5:45 - 6:40 (Irving Park) Belford Tavern, 3200 N. Pulaski - Welcome to one of Chicago's many venerable corner taverns. If you want to balance your drinking with food, there's a McDonald's next door. If you want to work off the calories, there's a Planet Fitness across the street. Perfectly balanced, as all things should be. Our visit here will be a tiny bit shorter than usual so we can hop on the bus for a journey west to:
7:00 - 8:00 (Dunning) Cafe Prague, 6710 W. Belmont - Lots of you will ask, partway through a tour evening, 'Is there food at the next spot? Where should I get food?' For once I will be certain of where we should eat on the way: right here at Cafe Prague. I will link the menu in the event discussion. But enjoy the heartiest of Central Europe's cuisines. My apologies to the vegetarians of the tour, vegetarian dishes are not this part of the world's strong suit. And there will be vodka. And beer. Lots of beer. Next up, just a quick bus ride away, is.
8:15 - 9:15 (Portage Park) Whacky Shack, 5357 W. Belmont - Metal siding on an old yellow brick building hides this spot, a 'Neighborhood dive with a WHACKY atmosphere.' They invite visitors to have a drink, dance a little, and play pool. Let's see if this is as whacky as the sign on the door says it is.
9:30 - 10:30 (Avondale): Podlasie Club, 2918 N. Central Park Ave. - We will close at a 3AM bar so those that want to keep making new friends can go til all hours of the night. They offer a Polish Handshake, a nice deviation from the standard Chicago Handshake. Try it if you dare!
