About this Event
Four Places of the Soul
A beautiful concert featuring Vaughan Williams’ much-loved Fantasia on a Theme of Thomas Tallis, a fascinating miniature ‘music of the spheres’ from the time of Shakespeare, and Jeremy Thurlow’s new Cello Concerto Four places of the soul. This is a piece about solitude, and company: their joys and benefits and also their dangers and delusions, and how they can help us to know and shape our sense of self.
The Creation Sinfonia brings together players from the acclaimed Smith Square Sinfonia and outstanding students from Cambridge University, conducted by Francis Bushell, former BBC Young Musician finalist.
Joely Koos is our renowned cello soloist: principal with the English Symphony Orchestra, co-principal with the City of London Sinfonia and the London Chamber Orchestra, and a regular guest principal with the BBC Philharmonic, the BBC National Orchestra of Wales and Bournemouth Symphony.
Described as 'extremely seductive, fresh and full of innovative elan', Jeremy Thurlow's music is performed around the world. This concert is the London premiere of his new Cello Concerto.
Held in the beautiful Great Hall of Goodenough College, Mecklenburgh Square, the concert begins at 7.30 and lasts about an hour. Tickets (which are free) can be reserved here on Eventbrite. The nearest tube stations are Russell Square, Kings Cross and Farringdon.
