About this Event
We are thrilled to welcome artist to The JPP to discuss the path she followed to the creation of her beautiful light-works, most recently exhibited in her solo show at The World of Threads, 2023, in Oakville.
The foundation of my work and the process I like to share with others, is rooted in forgiveness. With wars happening all around us, acknowledging and forgiving our past is crucial to our mental health and how we react to current events. By tearing and cutting through the artwork we once deemed “unworthy”, we can free ourselves from our inner critic as well as painful moments from our past. Stitching these fragments together helps us move forward from the past while building something new and positive from it. - Loretta Faveri
Loretta Faveri will discuss the history of her work, and demonstrate her unique process. Using “rejected” prints on washi, Loretta will create a 6 x 6” machine-stitched tapestry. Participants are invited to participate in a ceremonial tearing of their own discarded art-on-washi and to then be guided in its transformation by Loretta, through pasting or hand-stitching pieces together. Please bring a small piece of your work on washi if you wish to participate.
This is a free event. Donations are appreciated.
All donations will go to https://thegatehouse.org, the Etobicoke non- profit that offers support to survivors of childhood sexual assault.
