Founders Ride & Reception: Celebrating 25 Years of the Midtown Greenway

We’re marking this milestone with a special Founders Ride & Reception, featuring special guests George Puzak and Tim Springer, the original Midtown Greenway Coalition founders whose vision and advocacy brought the Midtown Greenway to life.

This will be a small, one-of-kind Group Bike Ride and Reception, and tickets are limited.

Learn how George came up with the idea for the Midtown Greenway, including why it's called "Midtown." Hear him describe the literal soapbox he used to get people interested in his idea, and how he worked to form the Midtown Greenway Coalition.

Tim Springer, known as the "Greenway Guy," was our founding executive director. He worked to get each section of the trail planned and installed, including the iconic Sabo Bridge. Learn how he helped establish the Coalition and lead advocacy efforts, working with city, county, state, and federal officials to push for funding and approval of the project.

Stops will include our new Murals and Pollinator Gardens, as well as a discussion at the Short Line Bridge over the river.

We’ll hear from Soren Jensen, current Executive Director of the Midtown Greenway Coalition, as he looks ahead to the next 25 years — including bold efforts to:

• Extend the Greenway over the Mississippi River

• Transform the Greenway into the nation's leading cultural corridor and urban pollinator pathway — with public art installations and pollinator gardens enriching the trail for generations to come.

The ride will be a short 10-mile roundtrip, featuring stops along the way to point out key points and progress in developing, protecting, and enhancing the Greenway.

After the ride, join us for a reception with refreshments, where George and Tim will share stories from the early days of the Greenway.

Come ride, reflect, and envision the future of the trail that has transformed our city — and will continue to inspire for decades to come.
