Background

An understanding of evidence synthesis is important for postgraduate students.


Aim

To introduce evidence synthesis methods and why they matter.


Objectives:

This workshop introduces the steps of evidence synthesis.


Learning outcomes

At the end of this course, participants will understand the principles of

· Different types and modes of evidence synthesis

· Formulating a research question

· Developing and registering a protocol

· Developing and running a comprehensive search strategy

· Screening citations

· Data extraction

· Data synthesis

· Critical appraisal Risk of bias assessment

· Certainty of evidence

· Qualitative evidence synthesis (QES)

· Report writing

· Rapid reviews


Teaching strategies

The workshop will consist of a mixture of short presentations and discussion.
