Course Overview:
Foundations of Defense is the essential entry point into real-world self-defense training. Designed for teenagers, young adults, and adults alike, this seminar delivers practical skills, sound decision-making frameworks, and legally informed strategies for personal protection.
This is not a fitness class or a choreographed martial arts demo. It is a structured, modern self-defense course built around realistic problems and pressure-tested solutions. Participants learn how violence actually unfolds, how to reduce the likelihood of an encounter, and how to respond effectively if avoidance fails.
This seminar serves as the prerequisite and conceptual base for all of our more advanced programs, including Defensive Knife Foundations, Defensive Pistol Foundations, Pepper Spray Foundations, and future defensive systems courses.
Participants will receive instruction and guided practice in the following areas:
The Laws and Legalities of Self-Defense
Understand use-of-force principles, self-defense justification, and how to protect yourself legally as well as physically.
Managing an Unknown Contact
Learn situational awareness, boundary setting, de-escalation strategies, and how to disengage before a situation turns physical.
Defensive Striking
Simple, high-percentage striking methods designed for self-protection rather than sport.
Defensive Grappling and Escapes
How to protect yourself and survive if an assault goes to the ground as well as how to render an assailant unconscious if need be.
Introduction to Pepper Spray
When and how to use pepper spray responsibly, including legal considerations, deployment principles, and integration with unarmed skills.
What to Do After an Assault
Immediate actions following a confrontation, including safety, communication with authorities, and medical considerations.
