The Foundation for Filipino Artists, Inc. (FFAI) is thrilled to celebrate 36 years of promoting Filipino arts and culture! This year's celebration coincides perfectly with Filipino-American History Month, making it even more special.
To mark this occasion, FFAI is delighted to present a captivating new performance by the esteemed Philippine Ballet Theatre (PBT). During the celebration of our 35th Anniversary milestone last year, they regaled us with a ballet interpretation of the songs of Jose Mari Chan, an iconic Filipino pop singer and song writer, whose songs resonate with at least 2 generations of Filipino Americans.
This year, they're taking things to a whole new level with a first-ever ballet interpretation! PBT will bring to life excerpts of the Ibalon Tale (Ibalong Epic) for Act I; a famous legend from the Bicol region in the Philippines. This epic story tells of three legendary heroes: Baltog, Handyong, and Bantong, who bravely fought against adversity and monsters to protect their land.
And as we look forward to the Christmas season, PBT will perform excerpts from The Nutcracker for Act II; a story about a young girl named Clara who dreams that her nutcracker comes to life, battles the Mouse King, and transforms into a prince. The ballet, featuring iconic music by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, sets the stage for the festive spirit to come.
FFAI cordially invites you to join us on October 5, 2024, Saturday, at the La Guardia Performing Arts Center (LPAC) in Long Island City for two splendid shows. The first is a matinee from 2:00 to 3:30 pm, specially curated for students and seniors. The evening will culminate in a Gala Performance at 7:00 pm, for a spectacular experience for all attendees.
