About this Event

About this Field Trip: Tour the East Bay Regional Park District’s largest creek restoration project and the largest creek daylighting project in the East Bay! Located within Sibley Volcanic Regional Preserve, the Sibley Alder and Leatherwood Creek Restoration Project (on the former McCosker property) daylights approximately a half-mile of deteriorating culvert network and restores riparian habitat along Alder Creek, Leatherwood Creek, and San Leandro Creek.

The site is situated within a deep canyon of dense oak woodland at the bottom of a ridgeline of rolling grassland hills. This walking tour will focus on the restoration details of reconstructed channels into a step-pool system; benefits to native and special status species in alignment with the state's 30x30 goal of protecting biodiversity; climate change mitigation strategies; and public amenities and access.

Space is limited on this field trip, and all attendees must register before the event. If tickets sell out, there will be the option to join a waitlist. Once you join the waitlist, you will be notified if a spot opens up for you.

Location: The meeting location is indicated by the red pin on the map below. If you are coming from Skyline down Pinehurst, after the hairpin turn, the site is approximately 800 feet on the left. If you are coming from Moraga, past the town of Canyon, the site will be on the right.

Attendees are encouraged to arrive before the tour start time for safe parking.
