Fortune And Fables – Short Stories for Restless Souls
I search for moments of mysticism in ordinary environments, locations where time is displaced through juxtapositions of objects, unnatural light, or spatial dynamics. The camera is a device to trap time and bend light. Through the lens the world is transformed into mysterious spaces, lost fragments, or chance encounters. This unknowing of the known world creates images that linger between familiar and fictional, or dreaming and conscious states.
The exhibit contains two short series. Fortuna captures gritty, cinematic, black & white images of Italian street culture with a nod toward Italian Neorealism and a Noir-ish sense of angles and dark shadows. The images are hand transferred onto metal plates. Subconscious Dreaming occurred individually over time and reflect my fascination with low-fi technology and analogue film tricks. They embody unvoiced emotions, prescient thoughts and yearnings for unknown lands. They are shot on film and developed using traditional darkroom color and black & white processes.–Rebecca Dietz
