Join us at Almost Real Things Gallery at Canopy for FORTRESS: A group exhibition displaying new work from local, talented women artists.
About this Event

FORTRESS brings together three women artists considering a fundamental question: What might we create if we quit inheriting the old world and began imagining the next one?

Hope Hummingbird, Kate Csillagi and Lauren Napolitano come together to create a space to loosen the valves, unhinge the brow and turn away from the relentless horrific headlines of this moment. The work of all three contain unique symbolism, casting archetypes and transforming everyday objects into access points for this vast domain.

Hope Hummingbird contributes reflective metallic porcelain wall hangings, portraying strong, powerful heroines.

Kate Csillagi presents paintings and ceramic sculpture, offering a cast of characters and their inner landscapes.

Lauren Napolitano brings contemporary folk magic into recontextualization of familiar objects.

Together in FORTRESS, these artists charge the space with an intimate look beyond the veil, inviting us into an unruly place of becoming.

Join us for the Opening Reception on October 2nd and view the work through October 23rd. Refreshments will be served and the artists will be present to talk about their new work!

About the Artists

is a ceramic artist and educator based in Austin, Texas. Her fine art practice centers on porcelain portraiture, often depicting fellow local artists and feminist icons throughout history. Through this work, she engages with contemporary social movements, aiming to inspire hope, connection, and community.

In addition to her studio practice, Hope designs and fabricates custom tile for residential and commercial spaces. Her handmade, hand-painted tiles are known for their delicate craftsmanship and serene sense of place.

(b. 1981) is an interdisciplinary artist living and working in Austin, Texas. Her practice grew out of the DIY world of zines, punk flyers, and album art, and has since expanded into murals, ferrocement sculpture and immersive site-specific installations.

Her work breaches the boundaries of the familiar, summoning guardian figures, animism, and narratives that dissolve the veil between worlds. Moving fluidly between large-scale painting to watercolor studies and then to monumental ferrocement forms, she conjures spaces where the surreal and the sacred coexist. Csillagi’s imagery is part invocation, offering portals into her personal and relational mythologies, drawing viewers into a place where the absurd and everyday collide.
