Forró Roots Flow: Improvisation and Creativity
This workshop is about bringing your own personality to the dance floor. Through creative challenges for both leaders and followers, we explore new movement possibilities and improvisation in specific dance situations.
What we will cover:
- Giro Paulista: the signature turn of Forró Roots
- Finding your style: expanding your creative vocabulary
- Counterbalance and connection in Forró Roots
- Adapting the body: responding to different dance stimuli
- Creative arm styling within the Giro Paulista
About the instructor: Julie Médous
Julie is a researcher and educator from São Paulo, Brazil, and part of the Viajando Pelo Roots project. With years of training across Brazil and Europe, she brings deep technical knowledge and artistic sensitivity to every class. She is traveling from Brazil to Toronto specifically for this weekend.
What to bring and wear
- Water bottle
- Comfortable clothing
- Shoes with a smooth sole that allows for turns (heels are not necessary, but avoid rubber soles that grip the floor)
