Forgotten Funerals
About this Event
Brief Description: In a world experiencing rapid ecological change, the grief we feel for wildlife and the natural world often goes unspoken or unacknowledged. This two-hour interactive workshop offers a gentle, supportive sanctuary to process animal loss and grief. Together, we will hold space for personal reflections on our connection to the environment, followed by a collaborative, hands-on ritual: the creation of a beautiful, collective altar/shrine dedicated to a deceased animal. Through shared storytelling, natural elements, and community art-making, we will transform sorrow into a meaningful tribute, honoring the lives of the creature kin who share our planet.
This workshop is intentionally designed for:
· Anyone carrying grief for a specific animal companion, local wildlife, or the broader living world.
· Creatives and ritual-seekers interested in community-based healing and collaborative art.
· Anyone looking for a safe, non-judgmental space to express complex emotions about the environment.
What participants will leave with:
· A Sense of Community: Validation that their grief about the planet and its creatures is real and shared.
· A Workbook + Ritual Guidelines: Practical, accessible ways to create personal mourning rituals or altars using natural objects.
· Emotional Release: A felt sense of catharsis from transforming heavy emotions into a physical, collective piece of art.
· A Commemorative Photograph: A digital image of the final collective shrine as a lasting keepsake of the shared ritual.
