The Blacksmith Knife - Open to blacksmiths Level 1 and above. Turn a section of carbon steel bar into a working knife using only hand tools! $30 per participant coal and materials fee. Pay at the door. Reserve your spot in the contest by emailing [email protected]Contest Rules
- Contestants must wear appropriate safety equipment and clothing.
- Contestants must use a pre-cut section of sucker rod to forge a knife.
- Contestants may only use hand tools to forge and sharpen the knife to meet the
parameters. No power tools permitted.
- Knives must be sharpened and heat-treated within the time limit below:
- Level III+ Smiths: 2 hours
- Level II Smiths: 2:30 minutes
- Level 1 Smiths: 3 hours
Knives will be tempered by the judges following the time limit and before testing. Knives will be judged on:
- Strength and durability
- Required dimensions
- Sharpness - Spring handle comfort and safety
- Overall Workmanship
Prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place
