Sunnyhill Church is hosting the next part of the LeboGreen Speaker Series on "Forever Chemicals" or PFAS on Wednesday, November 20th at 7pm. Learn what PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) are, why they’re harmful, and how we can protect ourselves from them.
Enjoy a free, informative presentation and panel discussion by Dr. Ned Ketyer of the Environmental Health Project, Moses Wamalwa of the Plastics Collaborative (Humane Action Pittsburgh), and Lindsay Fraser of Women for a Healthy Environment. Holly Rudoy of Wonderfill will also have PFAS-free products available for purchase.
A Bit More on PFAS from the EPA:
PFAS are widely used, long lasting chemicals, components of which break down very slowly over time.
Because of their widespread use and their persistence in the environment, many PFAS are found in the blood of people and animals all over the world and are present at low levels in a variety of food products and in the environment.
PFAS are found in water, air, fish, and soil at locations across the nation and the globe.
Scientific studies have shown that exposure to some PFAS in the environment may be linked to harmful health effects in humans and animals.
There are thousands of PFAS chemicals, and they are found in many different products, especially our food, drinking water, non-stick cookware, stain-resistant materials, food packaging, shampoo, dental floss, cosmetics, and more.
This is an issue of great importance for our health and the health of generations to come. We look forward to seeing you there!
