Discover the magic of nature-inspired art in this engaging, three-part series with artist Mel Kolstad. Together, we'll transform simple materials into stunning works of art while honoring the beauty of the forest floor.
Week 1: Dyeing (April 9th)
Learn the fascinating art of dyeing using powdered dyes and rusty objects. Create uniquely patterned papers, fabrics, silk strips, and hand-dyed embroidery floss that will be incorporated into future projects. Prepare to be amazed by the incredible results!
Week 2: Collage (April 16th)
Using the dyed materials, fabrics, and additional elements, dive into the world of collage-making. Explore techniques to build depth and texture, and craft compositions that captivate the eye.
Week 3: Embroidery (April 23rd)
Bring your collage to life with the finishing touches of machine and hand embroidery. Use the hand-dyed embroidery floss from Week 1 and experiment with free-motion stitching on a sewing machine (provided in class).
This series is perfect for creatives of all levels who want to explore dyeing, collage, and embroidery while connecting with the beauty of the natural world.
