Forest and Nature School Conference 2024!

Joins us for 2.5 days of collaborative engagement as we share beautiful and heartfelt stories of classroom work from an environmental kinship lens. Hear children's perspectives about the rights of the natural world, as well as opportunities to explore the day in a life of a forest and nature school program.

On Thursday October 24th from 6:30-8:30 pm, we will begin with a presentation about the evolution of our forest school program, and how we develop a curriculum in partnership with our children, families, and community. We will conclude the evening with a tour of the Inspired by Wonder childcare centre within the SSCY centre. Lights refreshments will be served.

On Friday, October 25 from 9:00- 4:00 pm, participants will arrive at IBW centre and then loaded into school buses and head out for the day to Bunn's creek where they will experience a typical forest and nature school firsthand. This day will include a bag lunch, morning refreshments, and light refreshments around the fire. Appropriate clothing recommended.

On Saturday, October 26 from 9:00-4:00 pm, participants will gather in the Northern Lights room upstairs within the SSCY centre where we will explore topics and presentations together about:

1. Indigenous teachings and Forest School

2. Mental Health and Nature

3. Climate initiative project: A collaboration between the SSCY and School Forest and Nature groups

4. Exploring current classroom work and pedagogical documentation from a nature perspective.

A hot lunch will be provided.

Registration includes 16 hours of learning accompanied by a PD certificate that will be emailed after completion of the conference.

If you need to cancel your registration, you may do so prior to Wednesday October 16, and we will issue you a refund. No refunds will be granted after October 17, 2024.
