Judging:
“Even the cleverest cannot escape the law of justice.”
Our Judging Directors, Harrison Carr and Amy Lawton, have been reaching out to dinos to get the deepest judging pool possible and encourage teams to send dinos and varsity as judges. ALL DINO JUDGES WILL BE PAID. Dinos will be paid $20 per in-round and $50 per out-round.
We will be imposing a strictly enforced (n-1)/2 VARSITY judging requirement, rounded up. We will also be charging a judging fee of $20 per round per missing judge. Dino judges do not need to calibrate, but everyone else will receive a low judge ranking if they do not calibrate, regardless of who they are/their league status.
WE RESERVE THE RIGHT TO BREAK UP TEAMS IF WE DO NOT HAVE ENOUGH JUDGES. We will prioritize breaking up teams based on a school's judge-to-debater ratio and within that school, we will prioritize teams that have the highest cumulative number of qual points this year and the tiebreaker will be last year’s rankings. Please reach out to [email protected] if your school will have any issues meeting their judging requirements.
Housing:
“I would rather endure my troubles at home than rule over all men in a foreign land.”
Our Housing Directors, Nicolas Llorente Valin and Vinny Kazella, are in charge of crash housing! Due to Fordham’s strict housing policies, we will have limited crash housing. Crash housing will be provided on and off campus.
Fordham has VERY STRICT POLICIES regarding visitors in residence halls, so please be respectful of the spaces you’re in. Additionally, we will not be able to shift housing assignments on the day of the tournament. Please let us know if you need accessibility accommodations (e.g. elevator, ramp, etc.) and gender preferences; we will be more than happy to provide you with housing that fits your needs. Please note that housing registration is separate from tournament registration and that the form will need to be filled out once for each debater who needs housing. We appreciate your support in order to supply all the information to Fordham’s public safety team.
IF WE DO NOT RECEIVE YOUR HOUSING INFORMATION BY NOVEMBER 10th, WE CANNOT GUARANTEE YOU WILL GET HOUSING! We are serious– Fordham’s housing policies are very annoying and difficult to deal with.
Crash Housing Form: https://forms.gle/Ld6G5mLwUh1duyKK9
If you are not crash housing, we recommend getting a hotel in New Rochelle, which is about a five-minute Metro North ride from campus, or the Rodeway Inn Bronx Zoo.
Hotel Group Rate Discount:
Hotel group discounts are TBD. Reach out to [email protected] for more information.
Food:
“Eat and drink until your heart is glad.”
Our Food Directors, Aidan Thompson and Sam Doyle, will be providing you with excellent dining options for all three meals. If you have any dietary restrictions, please include them in your registration so we can accommodate you!
Equity:
“Practice justice towards all alike, both stranger and citizen.”
Our wonderful Equity Officers for this tournament include:
Sahil Sud (FB), Violet Whitmire (FB), Oscar Cloutier Potter (FB), & Tosca Neumann (FB)
We will do our best to make sure everyone in this tournament has a safe, equitable time!
Registration/Finance:
“Even small debts, left unpaid, bring trouble.”
Reg is $160/team. If you are registering more than 7 teams, please email us at [email protected].
Please include in your registration any requests you might have regarding room accessibility. We want to make sure everyone can get to their rounds easily and feels comfortable moving around campus!
Our tournament will have a soft cap at 100 teams, with a limited amount of housing for teams on a first come first serve basis. We will prioritize teams who meet their judge requirements first. Please be here on time or we will drop you.
If your team needs an exception to our payment policy or a reduction in registration fees, please email us at [email protected]. Subject line should state “Reg fees - School Name”. We really want everyone to be able to compete and will be generous to teams that need it; if payment is an issue, please reach out to us. Unless a school requests to pay before the tournament, we will send invoices and w9 paperwork after the tournament.
Location:
“Eat and drink until your heart is glad.”
GA is Keating 1st. Accessible entrances can be found on the left side facing the football field (ramp & elevator).
If you will be driving, we recommend entering the address for the New York Botanical Gardens in your GPS. The school’s listed address, 441 E Fordham Rd, is only accessible by campus vehicles. If you navigate to the Botanical Gardens (2900 Southern Blvd), Fordham’s visitor driveway is directly across the street.
If you let us know by Nov. 15th, we can provide free day and overnight parking. Fordham University and Fordham Debate Society are not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged property in the parking garage.
Public Transit:
If you’re taking Metro North, get off at the Fordham Station. It lets you off right next to campus.
If you’re taking NJ Transit/the subway, get off at Penn Station, then take the A train uptown, transfer to the D, and get off at Fordham Road, OR walk to 34th Street-Bryant Park and take the D train directly to Fordham Road. Head east along Fordham Road until you hit campus or Penn Station to the 7 or S and then MetroNorth to Fordham.
“Beware the gifts that hide a sword; cleverness can strike when least expected.”
