Ford House Tour

A shuttle will take us to the Main Residence where our private tour will begin. At the conclusion of the tour, we will be shuttled back to the Visitors Center and Gift Shop. Ticket price includes 1 cocktail, shuttles and private tour. Tickets $35 Registration for this tour ends May 14, 2026. Please plan on arriving 15 prior to start time.

Designed by prominent architect Albert Kahn, the Main Residence showcases the same craftsmanship and attention to detail found in many of Detroit’s most iconic buildings. Eleanor and Edsel moved into their lakeside residence in 1928, where they raised their family and welcomed guests into a home filled with art, warmth, and innovation.

Like many families, Eleanor and Edsel updated the house over time to reflect their evolving tastes. In the 1930’s, Edsel commissioned renowned industrial designer and Ford Motor Company collaborator Walter Dorwin Teague to reimagine four rooms. Teague introduced sleek, modern concepts rooted in the Machine Age aesthetic, blending innovation with artistry. We think our members will find these rooms especially interesting.

You’re invited to take pictures while on your tour; however, for the safety of visitors and the collection, we do not permit tripods, telephoto lenses, or selfie sticks. Don’t forget to share your images on social media with the hashtag #FordHouse!

Keep a safe distance between you and objects in the historic buildings. Even clean hands can harm historical objects.

Complimentary coat and umbrella check is available at the beginning of the tour. If this amenity is necessary, please notify staff prior to the start of the tour.

Food, drink, or gum are not allowed in the historic buildings. You’re welcome to enjoy a sip and snack or a picnic on our grounds. Please be sure to dispose of all trash in a receptacle.

All bags 11”x14”x3” or larger will not be allowed on house tours. Lockers are available but are limited, extra storage for bags is available but please communicate with visitors prior to groups arrival so they can be prepared. If a visitor needs their bag due to medical reasons, please let our staff know.

Pens and markers are not permitted on tours to help keep the estate in its original condition.
