Moving between documentation and transformation, Forces of Nature traces how images shift as they travel across processes, materials, and distance.

Kevin Pineda Gould’s monochrome photographs render New York City as if drawn from memory rather than direct observation. Light cutting through architecture, elongated shadows, and traces of human presence evoke a dream logic—fragmented, affective, and resistant to fixed meaning. Rather than dissolving upon waking, Gould’s images remain, suggesting that dreams, once formed, can take root in the physical world.

Simi Mahtani’s cyanotypes operate as X-rays of Gould’s dreamscapes. Through layered botanical silhouettes and organic impressions, she permeates the rigid geometry of the urban frame, extending the unseen systems of connection where the natural and constructed intersect.

Together, Gould and Mahtani present an immersive meditation on light, shadow, and the sun’s capacity to reveal and transform. Both photographic and alternative processes converge into a resonant vision of connection, memory, and the forces that shape our realities.
