Foraging for Good: Exploring Wild Bites & Wine of Palestine

Join foragers April Thompson and Chef Iulian Fortu along with local nonprofit Infinite Impact for a magical evening at Edgewood Community Farm highlighting wild foods and wine of Palestine. April and Iulian will introduce you to a few wild edible plants you can find right in the city that are ingredients commonly used in Palestinian cuisine. Guests will also partake in a Palestinian wine tasting and bite-size tapas featuring foraged ingredients common to Palestinian cuisine, and receive recipes for a few classic dishes with local wild ingredients you can make at home.

100% of ticket sales will be donated to The Gaza Children’s Village, a US-based 501(c)(3) operating children’s villages in Gaza that provide education, healthcare, nutrition, and psychosocial support to orphans and children with complex medical needs. Thousands of children have been orphaned in Gaza, and Children's Villages are serving as a life-line to suport them in rebuilding their lives and restoring hope for their future. Your ticket fuels relief for Gaza’s most vulnerable children.

The wine served will be from Cremisan Winery, a winery founded in 1885 to guarantee work opportunities for the poor through wine production. The founder of the winery also founded two orphanages in Palestine.

About the Hosts:

April Thompson is a Washington, DC–based writer, gardener, foodie, and forager. A freelance journalist for nearly 30 years, April has covered food, travel, sustainability, gardening, and foraging for dozens of publications and regularly leads urban foraging workshops in DC. The outgoing Vice President of the Mycological Association of Washington, April is working on a book on Urban Foraging the Mid-Atlantic for Falcon Guides.

Iulian Fortu is a chef, forager and founder of foraging company Arcadia Venture, with a focus on wild edible mushrooms and plants of the Mid-Atlantic.Iulian Fortu is Executive Chef of Poplar restaurant, an intimate DC eatery focusing on wild and seasonal ingredients. Iulian has a lifelong passion for food and foraging, which he loves to share with others through workshops, foraging walks, cooking classes, and private dinners. Iulian has a degree from New York's Culinary Institute of America.

Infinite Impact is a nonprofit organizaton on a mission to combat housing and food insecurity by providing stable, affordable housing to low-income and underserved communities. Through the development and management of real estate properties, Infinite Impact create safe homes for individuals and families in need. Every dollar of profit generated from housing initiatives is reinvested into life-changing humanitarian aid—both locally and globally—supporting children and families facing extreme poverty, displacement, and lack of access to basic necessities.
