Please join us at 6pm on Thursday, June 3rd to celebrate the unveiling of Summer Hiskens-Ravest’s Luz Mala Bad Light, the fifth exercise in the FORA / squared installation practice. View the works in the FORA window at 75 Vulture St, and then accompany us to The End for celebratory drinks.
Luz Mala Bad Light is informed by Chilean / Chiloé mythology and folklore, depicting Luz Mala, Pincoya, The Battle of Tenten-Vilú and CaiCai-Vilú, ChonChon and El Cuero. It is a cultural exploration of storytelling through hand-printed and mixed media.
Summer Hiskens-Ravest is a Sudamerican/Australiana, Meanjin-based artist working across a range of tactile and electronic mediums including printmaking, photography, videography, painting, and experimental music. Their practice emphasises the significance of DIY, alternate and experimental practice, as well as underlining hand-printed media as a tool of communication, storytelling, culture, and education.
In 2020 Summer graduated with a Bachelor in Fine Art (Printmaking) from the Queensland College of Art. Their solo exhibitions include Nihilismus (Impress Printmakers Studio and Gallery, 2021), and Auditory Dream Distortion (Backbone Youth Arts, 2018). Group exhibitions include The Allure of the Unaesthetic Discord (Wreckers Artspace, 2020), MELT Portrait Prize (Brisbane Powerhouse, 2019), Disrupt - Print Culture (Jugglers Art Space, 2016), The Gentle Void Gallery’s The Void (Hobart, 2015) and Ambush Gallery’s Paste Modernism No.4 (Sydney, 2015).

Luz Mala Bad Light will be displayed in the FORA window until mid-July.

The FORA/squared series is a bi-monthly exercise in activating the beautiful window space that throws an oblique shoulder from the gunsmith's alley at 75 Vulture St. This project is eternally grateful to the upstairs residents (Autumn Studio + Lance Montana) for lending this space.

pps/FORA is a physical and online hot space ARI. Based in Meanjin (Brisbane)
it is a diaristic publishing and portfolio space for the community.
The name champions afterthought as valid thought, and public discussion as an essential puzzle piece.
pps/FORA seeks to bring forward the intertextuality that we reside in, and the inextricable ways in which art and life are linked. That is an obvious point, but one that must be constantly remarked upon, as it is one we are constantly surprised by. To be reminded of these circles is to be drawn back into the fold, equipped with the tools of thinking critically and acting compassionately.
pps/FORA is developed on the land of the Jagera and Turrbal people
