About this Event
Welcome to this initiative on Black Brown Dialogues on Policy, For the Love of Texas: A Unity Summit for Higher Education. We aim to serve as a consciousness-raising space with updates on pressing higher education issues in the state of Texas. It also provides a valuable networking opportunity and skills-building workshops for young adults and community members. Participants will engage in practical training on writing op-eds, drafting policy briefs, delivering testimony before entities such as the State Board of Education and the Texas State Legislature, and conducting office visits. This comprehensive approach is designed to empower students, young adults and community members with the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively advocate for educational reforms and community interests.
This historic event represents the first intergenerational grassroots coalition for higher education in Texas. We are expecting to draw a large audience of around 200 attendees, bringing together a racially and ethnically and gender diverse audience of faculty, staff, students, civil rights groups, members of our community, together with non-Black and Brown allies to engage in meaningful dialogue (see Summit committee structure) and visit our website for more information.
