"You are invited to an evening of music and community to celebrate and support the work of Pat Humphries and Sandy O, the award-winning singer/songwriter duo known as Emma’s Revolution. On the frontline of peace and social justice movements for twenty years, Pat and Sandy’s songs are both fierce and tender, incandescent and lucid. The evening will also include veteran filmmaker Tom Weidlinger’s presentation of work-in-progress clips from KEEP ON MOVING FORWARD, a feature documentary that tells the story of Emma’s Revolution.
A reception with light refreshments, wine and other beverages and will begin at 7 pm, with the concert and work-in-progress film clips and discussion to follow. Proceeds from ticket sales and donations will help cover film production expenses including sound and production assistants, archival rights fees, transport, insurance, etc. Filmmaker Tom Weidlinger as well as Pat Humphries and Sandy O are contributing all their time and expertise, pro bono.
Known for fearless, truth-telling lyrics and melodies you can’t resist singing, Pat Humphries and Sandy O’s songs have been sung for the Dalai Lama, praised by Pete Seeger and covered by Holly Near. Their performances feature soaring harmonies and lush acoustic instruments, in songs that span folk to jazz and funk to rock. Their songs about critical issues happening in the world have been put to work by the movements those issues inspire. The duo says: "Our work is rooted in community, love, justice… and hope.”
Tom Weidlinger, the director of KEEP ON MOVING FORWARD, is an independent filmmaker who has been writing directing and producing documentary films for 35 years. Many have won festival awards and 25 have aired nationally on public television. Concerned with themes of social justice, his work deals with a wide range of topics from the dilemmas of humanitarian aid in the Congo to high school students with learning differences.
Tickets start with a Be Our Valentine level of $25 ($28 at the door, space permitting). Advance sales encouraged. Those wishing to contribute more to support the film can choose from ticket levels such as Candy Heart and Red Rose to higher-level contributions that come with a benefit, like Beloved Community (a public concert) and Your Heart Song (a song written especially for the donor).
