About this Event
At the Good Neighbor Project, we are always exploring what it looks like and how to be a good neighbor as a follower of Christ in our particular place and context. As much as we might want to hide from the turmoil, we cannot ignore what is currently happening around us. Political discourse is running hot and the divides it is causing in our communities seem to only get wider and deeper. Rather than looking to “take sides”, how can we be advocates of hope and healing?
Why should and how can Christians practice political, civic, and cultural engagement for the sake of our neighbors - how can we "live for shalom" in the public square, seeking peace, restorative justice and the common good of all people, knowing that our true hope and flourishing lies in Christ and his kingdom?
Kaitlyn will provide a lecture using biblical stories and images (hospitality in Genesis, Isaiah 1, the beginning of Jesus' ministry) to narrate an account of Christian political life oriented towards our larger communities, but nourished by spiritual formation in the church. She will focus on the kind of alternate imagination we need to cultivate, with some reference to specific practices.
The Good Neighbor Project is a Christian non-profit organization in Lancaster, PA that invites people into spaces where they can deepen their experience, understanding, and practice of the call to love God and their neighbor.
