What is Safe Families for Children?
Safe Families for Children Racine/Kenosha is dedicated to keeping kids out of the foster care system by surrounding at-risk parents with a network of volunteers for support before a crisis escalates. A recently finished 10-year study has proven that our unique model of support keeps kids out of the child welfare system while strengthening their parents for positive long-term societal effects. We are a movement of community, fueled by radical hospitality, intentional compassion, and disruptive generosity—because we believe that no child should face the trauma of separation simply because their parent lacked a support system.
What Kind of Impact Have We Had in Kenosha & Racine?
We served over 200 men, women, and children in 2025.
100% of those families were able to stay together and did not need further child welfare support.
After surrounding isolated parents with a circle of supportive volunteers, they were were able to...
Find employment
Move into a home with their kids (after couch surfing, living in the car, or at a shelter)
Get their driver's license
Obtain a vehicle
Finish their GED
Start their Associates Degree
Reach major sobriety milestones (1 year+)
Successfully complete probation
65% of the parents we accepted into the program "Graduated" -- which means they decided they were connecting so well with their Circle of Support (volunteers) and had met their goals and no longer felt they needed Safe Families any longer. Those relationships will continue without Safe Families for years to come!
